Course Description: Design of water conveyance channels and control structures, including siphons, chutes, weirs, flumes, dams, spillways, and outlet works.

Prerequisites:   CE EN 433 or equivalent

Course Objectives:  Students should be able to identify, design, and analyze alternatives for the control of surface water including considering of impacts on stream stability and ecosystem values.

Meeting Frequency: We will meet for lecture on Mondays and Fridays for class.  Wednesdays will either be a field trip or a classroom-based lecture and computer exercise.

Assignment Rules:     Homework problem sets are due at the beginning of class two class periods following the assignment unless otherwise specified.  You may work together, but turn in separately written assignments.  Copying will not be tolerated and will result in a score of zero for all suspected parties for the assignment.  Late homework is marked down 50% for every class period overdue.  Use engineering paper or computer printouts for your homework.  No other paper will be accepted.

Laboratory exercises and reports:  Reports are due one week after the trip.  Organize your report like the sample handout.  Each person will be graded separately for their contribution, and then an overall weighted average of the individual scores will be added to the grade.
